About This Project

Plant-Based Cohousing Recipes was created to support communities that want shared meals to be healthy, inclusive, affordable, and joyful.

The site draws inspiration from Vesanto Melina’s decades of work in plant-based nutrition, her many books, and her lived experience in cohousing. It brings together the practical details that matter when cooking for groups: scaling recipes, organizing volunteers, meeting dietary needs, and creating meals that everyone feels good about sharing.

Whether you’re a seasoned common-house cook or planning your first shared dinner, this site offers recipes, guidance, and inspiration to help your community eat well together.

About Vesanto's Inspiration

Vesanto Melina is a registered dietitian and co-author of several landmark plant-based nutrition books, including Becoming Vegan and the forthcoming  Plant-Powered Seniors. Her work has helped generations understand practical,
evidence-based plant-based nutrition.

Vesanto and her partner have visited and or have been guests at 24 cohousing communities in North America and Europe, sharing meals and at times presenting in these communities.

Her decades of lived cohousing experience add a rare and valuable perspective:
recipes must not only be healthy, but also workable in real community kitchens,  prepared by volunteer cooks of varying skill levels, and enjoyed by people with diverse dietary preferences.
